On-Q Unveils Two New & Improved Wireless Access Points

Available in an in-wall or in-ceiling design for more installation options.

Harrisburg, PA, January 5, 2006 - On-Q/Legrand, the leader in the connected home industry, is ringing in the New Year with two new wireless access points (WAPs) that offer reliable wireless coverage at a very affordable price.

Compact in size, the new On-Q WAPs' significantly lower cost affords homeowners the flexibility to strategically place WAPs in multiple locations throughout the home for better coverage - without breaking the bank. They can create multiple localized hot spots where wireless access is required or wanted.

"Wireless signals can be limited by 'noise' - appliances, lighting fixtures - and by different room configurations," says Gordon Waldhausen, Product Manager. "Homeowners can overcome such restrictions by installing a WAP at specific line-of-sight locations to guarantee coverage where it is critical or desired."

The WAPs install flush in the wall or ceiling in a standard plastic three-gang switch box for easy installation. They use a single Cat 5e cable to transmit power and data, so there's no need to co-locate the WAP near an electrical outlet, allowing the freedom to place the WAPs in optimal locations.

The WAPs' unobtrusive, compact design helps them blend practically unnoticed into the ceiling or wall when installed, and unsightly wires are hidden behind the surface for a clean finish. Other features of the new In-Ceiling (part no. 364887-01) and In-Wall (part no. 364891-01) WAPs include:

  • 802.11g protocol with backwards compatibility to 802.11b
  • Support data rates of up to 54 Mbps
  • Tetherless roaming and user-friendly operation
  • Power over Ethernet design, requiring only a single Cat 5e cable for both power and data
  • Multiple-level security configuration
  • Trouble-free configuration - plug 'n connect
